The project will take two years starting June 2010-June 2012 (Olympics). We are contracting world class British calligrapher Sabah Arbilli to write a full Qur’an. Sabah has written two Qur’ans in the past and has a record of winnings in calligraphy. The Qur’an writing and making will be documented and displayed in museums, galleries, community buildings and Archives. This project is unique and Inshallah we hope to bring the Muslim Ummah together.
We have such a unique opportunity and are honoured to have world class calligrapher Sabah Arbilli contracted to undertake this project. Sabah will dedicate two years of work to this project. One page of the Qur’an will be written daily in Thuluth style. A total of 609 pages will be produced with an extra 30 pages for the duplicated first pages of each section. This project will be shared with a large audience in the UK and we hope it will tour various places and be stored in a National Museum for preservation. All papers will be handmade and all illumination will be done section by section in Turkey. A panel of scholars will check each page for any mistakes. Sabah Arbilli has reached the highest level of Calligraphy that no one reached for 200 years. As as a British Calligrapher we feel his contribution will be one that makes History. There are 30 sections in the Qur’an and each section we hope to have sponsored. The individual, organisation or business sponsoring a section will receive one of the 30 limited copies of the Qur’an. We hope that the sponsor will keep the copies and share them with the communities they live in. They will have to make an extra donation to have limited print. This project is about manifesting the hearts of Muslims and understanding the revelation of the Qur’an. Sponsorship from the project will also enable funding of further projects with partners. All monies will be specifically dedicated to this project only. “It was after the death of my beloved father that a verse from the Qur’an 21:10, signified to me the biggest blessing I had in my life; The Holy Qur’an the book with all the answers for all my questions.
I strongly felt that the words of Allah to be hand written could unite British Muslims and also share the peaceful messages with other communities living in the United Kingdom. My colleague and most gifted talented dear friend Sabah, who writes words of the Qur’an with great precision and accuracy, is truly a gift with talent. Without whom this idea and project would have never been possible to become a reality. He believed in my vision and agreed to write the Holy Qur’an for the people of Britain”

Creative Colours was founded in 2007, by internationally renowned Ceramic/Visual artist and educator; Shahida Ahmed. Shahida, who has managed various arts projects and is the founder of this project says, “As a British Muslim I felt that the form of art, can be used as a tool to create dialogue where we can see the similarities and embrace the differences. My main aim was to create a fresh platform for South Asian and Middle Eastern Arts; we are British and need to share our heritage and beliefs through a medium that everyone appreciates”
The company consists of artists from specialist fields and we work with national, international and local partners working towards the development of the arts. Traditional Islamic arts and Cultural arts still have not reached a level of recognition in this country. This unique project is not only historical but a vision Shahida had when she first set up the company, the vision which for her starts with a verse, which was the first ever translated verse she read.
