The UK’S First Hand Written Qur’an 2010-2012

Born in Arbil, Iraq in 1977, Sabah Arbilli started his journey to become one of the top Arabic calligraphy artists from when he was very young. It was during his time at primary school that his unique and talented handwriting was noticed by his teacher, who named him: ‘Sabah Al- Khattat’ (the calligrapher). This encouragement had a positive impact on Sabah, which led him to become passionate about this form of art.

Sabah was fascinated with the writing of masters in Iraq, and grew up trying to copy their styles and artistic forms. At the age of 14, Sabah met his first master Bijart Arbilli, from whom later Sabah would take his calligraphy name, n order to be identified as a student of this great master.  Read More

The UK’S First Hand Written Qur’an 2010
The UK’S First hand written Qur’an is a project by Creative colours Arts . The project was launched in May 2010 and aims to produce a full Hand written Qur’an on handmade paper. This project will be a historical achievement once the fu ll Qur’an is completed.

The calligrapher selected to write the whole Qur’an is British calligrapher Sabah Arbilli born in Iraq. He achieved his Master degree in Traditional Arts in 2009. Sabah’s profile and winnings rate him as one of the most talented calligraphers in the world.

The Qur’an is the holiest book in Islam, and is believed to be God’s final revelation to humanity. It s said to have been revealed (or given) to The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by God through a series of revelations via the angel Gabriel, in and around the cities of Makkah and Medina between 610 and 632CE.

The first revelations took place during the month of Ramadan. The Qur’anic revelations are said to fall into two categories. Those received in Makkah establish the credentials of Muhammad as the Prophet of Islam and talk about past communities and generations, whilst those received in Medina describe the duties and norms of behaviour for Muslims.

Many Muslims believe that Muhammad was illiterate, and that this is evidence for the Divine origin of the Qur’an (their point being that he could not have invented the content of the Qur’an). They also consider Muhammad’s ability to receive the Qur’an to be a miracle. It is widely accepted that the first revelation Muhammad received was Surah 96 (“Clots of Blood”) This boast is echoed in the Hadith (Mishkat III, pg.664),
which says:

“The Qur’an is the greatest wonder among the wonders of the world... This book is second to none in the world according to the unanimous decision of the learned men in points of diction, style, rhetoric, thoughts and soundness of laws and regulations to shape the destinies of mankind.”

Holy Qur’an has remained unchanged and unaltered during all these 1400 years and it shall remain so till the Day of Resurrection, for Allah, has taken it on Himself to protect it. In 2010-2012 we want to write the words revealed to the Beloved Prophet Mohammed PBU, in the most beautiful purest way and revive a dying art of calligraphy.
